# Get started with Omni

**[Omni](https://www.aixplain.com/omni)** is the aixplain agent you hand work to. Ask in your own words, and Omni works out what the task needs, brings in the tools and agents for it, does the steps and asks before anything that matters. This article explains where Omni runs, how to give it a first job, how approvals work, how to connect apps, make files and schedule runs, and what it can't do yet.

> Omni comes with every aixplain plan, including the free Core plan. It runs on the web at app.aixplain.com and in aixplain Desktop for macOS, Windows and Linux. The desktop app is in early releases (version 0.x), so features can change from one release to the next.

## What is Omni?

Omni takes on the work you'd otherwise redo every week: drafting, planning, research, making sense of documents and numbers, and working in the apps you connect. It discovers the tools a task needs from the 900+ assets in the Marketplace and asks you to connect any you haven't yet. When a tool is missing, Omni can create it.

Omni also coordinates your other agents. It brings in the right agent for each task, and it can build a new agent with you when the work calls for one.

### Key capabilities

- **Works in your apps:** reads and drafts email, checks your calendar and works with the chat and project tools you connect.
- **Makes files:** writes documents, slides and spreadsheets, and reads and edits files you give it.
- **Repeats work:** runs a task on a schedule or a trigger, and keeps a record of each run.
- **Builds agents:** describe a job, and Omni creates an agent for it once you confirm.
- **Lets you pick the model:** choose a model for the task, or let Auto choose for each step. You can swap the model at any time, and Omni keeps what it knows.

## Choose where to use Omni

Omni runs in two places. They are separate, and each keeps its own sessions, memory, connections, files, schedules and settings.

| Where | What it is | Best for |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **On the web** | Omni on cloud, at [app.aixplain.com](https://app.aixplain.com). You can also message it from WhatsApp or Telegram | Work that should keep going while you're away from your computer |
| **In aixplain Desktop** | Omni on your computer, in the aixplain app or with `koder omni` in a terminal | Work that should stay on your machine, with local files, folders and models |

> **Note:** Omni on the web and Omni in the desktop app don't sync yet. A chat, memory, connection or file you set up in one doesn't appear in the other.

## Sign up and open Omni

Signing up is open to everyone and free. New accounts start with free credits to use within 7 days, and no card is needed.

### On the web

1. Go to **[app.aixplain.com](https://app.aixplain.com/chat?auth=register)** and create your account.
2. Follow the welcome. It includes a card for connecting WhatsApp or Telegram if you want to message Omni from your phone.
3. Type your first request in the chat box.

You can look around the web app as a guest before you sign up. Private pages and actions ask you to sign in or verify your email.

### In aixplain Desktop

1. Download and install the app from **[aixplain.com/koder](https://www.aixplain.com/koder#download)**. See **[Get started with aixplain Desktop](https://www.aixplain.com/support/articles/get-started-with-aixplain-desktop)** for each platform, the terminal install command and how to use your own provider or a local model.
2. Open **aixplain** and sign in. Your browser opens to finish signing in.
3. Select **Omni** and type your first request.

## Give Omni a first job

Start with one real task from your week. Say what you want the way you'd tell a colleague, and name the apps or files it should use.

1. Type the request in the chat box.
2. Follow along as Omni works. A line under its icon shows what it's doing, and a checklist ticks off the steps of longer tasks.
3. Answer any question Omni asks, and approve or decline each action it wants to take.
4. Read the answer. When a turn finishes, its steps fold into one line, with the answer and any files Omni made right below.

### Example requests

- "Brief me on every account renewing this month."
- "Sort today's tickets and draft replies from the support center."
- "Match this month's invoices to the purchase orders."
- "Chart Q3 revenue by region from the orders database."

## Approve what Omni does

Omni asks before it sends, spends, books or connects, and waits for your **Allow**. Every run keeps a record of what it did.

1. Omni pauses at the action and shows exactly what it wants to do, such as the email it's about to send.
2. Read it. Ask Omni to change it if something is wrong.
3. Select **Allow** to go ahead, or decline it.

In connected apps, anything that sends, creates, changes or deletes something shows you the exact content first, and you approve it one call at a time. If Omni needs to send three emails, you see and approve each one.

In the desktop app, an access switch beside **Send** sets how much Omni does on its own: **Ask first**, **Auto** or **Full access**.

> **Important:** Even in **Full access**, Omni asks before it spends money, deletes, pushes code or reads secret files. Check recipients and content before you select **Allow**.

If you decline a step, Omni says it didn't happen, and a turn where you declined every step says it stopped because you didn't approve it.

## Pick up where you left off

In the desktop app, Omni home lists the chats stopped at an approval or a question, scheduled runs that failed in the last day and the conversations you were last in. It shows nothing when nothing is waiting on you.

When you're signed in, Omni knows your team's agents, models, connections, knowledge bases, tools and pipelines, so it can pick the right one. In the desktop app, you can review, edit or forget what Omni remembers.

## Connect your apps

Connected apps let Omni work in your own accounts:

- **Email:** read your inbox, draft replies and send email after you approve.
- **Calendar:** check your calendar and work with events.
- **Chat:** read and post in tools such as Slack.
- **Project tools:** work with tickets and issues in tools such as Jira and Linear.

Emails, calendar events, tickets and chat messages show up as cards in the conversation, so you can read them at a glance.

Connections belong to your aixplain team, not to one chat. Once an app is connected, Omni can use it in any later conversation in the same place you connected it. You can also start from a request: if a task needs an app you haven't connected, Omni tells you which one is missing and asks you to connect it.

### Connect an app in aixplain Desktop

1. Select **Omni**.
2. Open **Omni settings → Connect your apps**. Omni settings are on Omni home, in **Settings** and in the command palette.
3. Choose the app you want and follow its sign-in steps, granting the access it asks for.
4. Go back to the chat and ask Omni for work that uses the app.

### Connect an app on the web

1. Sign in at **[app.aixplain.com](https://app.aixplain.com)**.
2. On the chat home, pick an app from the row of apps to connect, or ask Omni for a task and connect the app when it asks.
3. Follow the sign-in steps for that app.
4. Choose which of the app's actions to connect, when the dialog asks.

Your tools and integrations are listed together in the capability library, where you can also connect a new one. MCP servers have their own tab in integrations, including servers that sign in with OAuth.

> **Note:** A connected app needs at least one action selected. In an organization, admins decide which connections Omni can make, so an app you expect may not be available to you.

## Make documents, slides and spreadsheets

Omni can turn a request into a finished file, and read and edit files you give it.

- **Documents:** briefs, reports, checklists and drafts, such as a renewal brief with the accounts at risk.
- **Slides:** a deck for a meeting or an update.
- **Spreadsheets:** tables of results, such as invoices checked against purchase orders with the mismatches flagged.
- **Charts and images:** a chart of the answer to a data question, or visuals for a campaign.

Say what you need, who it's for and where the content should come from, such as your connected apps, a file or a database. Then open the file card under the answer.

Drop a file into the chat for Omni to read. Drop an Excel workbook, and Omni can read it and edit it. On the web, you can attach files in the chat when the agent supports them.

In the desktop app, the files button lists everything Omni made in the chat:

- **Preview:** HTML pages and images open beside the chat.
- **Download:** save a file, or show it in Finder or Explorer.
- **Go back:** restore an earlier version of a file Omni changed.

In the desktop app, Omni can also drive a browser to look things up or work on websites, with its own sign-ins kept separate from yours.

> **Note:** Documents, slides and spreadsheets arrived in aixplain Desktop 0.5.0. For a designed deck you present with speaker notes, or a landing page, dashboard or video, use **Design** instead. See **[Make screens, slides and video with Design](https://www.aixplain.com/support/articles/make-screens-slides-and-video-with-design)**.

### Example requests

- "Brief me on every account renewing this month, as a two-page document."
- "Match this month's invoices to the purchase orders and give me a spreadsheet of the ones that need a look."
- "Turn these meeting notes into five slides for Thursday's update."

## Schedule runs and triggers

In the desktop app, Omni can do repeated work for you: every morning, every Monday at 8:00 or whenever something happens.

1. Select **Omni**.
2. Describe the task and when it should run, for example "Do this every Monday at 8:00."
3. Check the schedule Omni proposes, and approve it.
4. Find the step in the chat that says Omni scheduled the task.

Besides a clock, Omni can start a run from a folder trigger or a script trigger on your computer. Describe what should start the run and what Omni should do, and Omni sets up the trigger with you. These triggers arrived in version 0.5.0. Scheduled runs and triggers use your machine, your files and your connections, and the app has a keep-awake option for this work.

For each schedule you can see its history of runs, pause it and resume it later, or run it now. Updating the app keeps your schedules.

> **Important:** A scheduled run keeps every deny rule you set. It refuses to push code, delete folders, force-delete files, spend money or read secret files, and records why. Anything it would send through a connected app waits for your **Allow**, so plan a schedule to prepare the work and leave the last step to you.

A refused or failed step reads as "Tried to …" in the run. To fix a failed run, open it from Omni home, read the steps to see where it stopped, fix the cause, such as an app that needs connecting again or a step that needs your approval, then run the schedule again.

Omni can also schedule or event-trigger your aixplain agents, so an agent you built runs on cloud without your computer. A trigger can run an agent on a schedule or when an event arrives from a connected tool, such as a new email. In the web app, trigger creation lists only tools that can fire events.

### Example requests

- "Every Monday at 8:00, draft a follow-up to each account renewing this month, and wait for my approval before sending."
- "Every morning, sort new support tickets and draft replies from the support center."
- "Send me the weekly campaign report every Friday."

## Build agents with Omni

Describe the work, and Omni creates the agent once you confirm, with no code. You build, test and deploy it: agents deploy on cloud, where they run 24/7, or on your own servers if your organization set them up. After that, ask Omni to use the agent in any chat. See **[Build and deploy agents](https://www.aixplain.com/support/articles/build-and-deploy-agents)**.

## Pricing and usage

Omni comes with every plan, from the free Core plan to Scale and Enterprise. One credit is one US dollar, and every run shows its cost. Verifying a connected app and running its actions may use credits from your team's balance, and each tool's price is on its Marketplace card. Local models and tools in the desktop app don't count toward your usage. For plans and prices, see **[Account, plans and billing](https://www.aixplain.com/support/articles/account-plans-and-billing)** and **[Pricing](https://www.aixplain.com/pricing)**.

## Privacy and data

- **On the desktop:** Omni works on your computer. Its memory, your files and the traces of every run stay on your machine, and a cloud model sees only the step it handles.
- **In the cloud:** agents you create with Omni run on cloud, or on your own servers if your organization set them up.
- **Connected tools:** send data to their own services when Omni uses them.
- **Never for training:** we never sell your data or train on it, wherever aixplain runs.

For more, see **[Privacy and data](https://www.aixplain.com/support/articles/privacy-and-data)** and **[Security](https://www.aixplain.com/security)**.

## Limitations

- Omni on the web and Omni in the desktop app don't share sessions, memory, connections, files, schedules or settings yet.
- There's no Omni app for iPhone or Android yet.
- Folder and script triggers are only in the desktop app.
- A scheduled run can't approve its own sends, spending or deletions.
- Omni makes files in the chat. To share one, download it or ask Omni to save it to a connected app, which asks for your approval first.
- Connected apps, sign-in and cloud models need a network connection, even when you use a local model on the desktop.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I use Omni from my phone?

Yes, through the cloud Omni. Message it from WhatsApp or Telegram, and it keeps working while you're out. If you use the desktop app, you can also **[pair your phone as a remote](https://www.aixplain.com/support/articles/get-started-with-aixplain-desktop#pair-your-phone-or-tablet)** to follow chats, answer questions and approve steps. A paired phone sees only what its pairing allows and can never raise a chat to **Full access**.

### How does Omni work in an organization?

Everyone gets their own Omni, with private memory, sessions and connected tools, and it works from the agents, skills and files your workspace shares with you. Admins decide which models and connections it can use, set its policies and limits, and see a record of the assets created in the workspace. Other members can't see your sessions, though admins can open and export them when your company needs to, for example for an audit. With Enterprise, Omni runs on-prem, in your VPC or air-gapped.

### Omni says a tool is missing. What do I do?

Connect the app Omni names, then ask again. In an organization, ask your admin whether that connection is allowed.

### Why did a run stop at a connected app?

It's probably waiting for your approval. In the desktop app, Omni home lists chats stopped at an approval or a question. If the run stopped with a message about missing actions, select at least one action for that connection and try again.
